Back to the Future...

Mar 28, 2023

As a successful executive, you're likely constantly focused on the future. You're always looking for ways to improve, to grow, and to stay ahead of the competition. But what if you could take a trip to the future, and see how your business turns out, how you turned out. How your family turned out?

My wife and I were chatting about time travel and she asked me this important thoughtful question... If we were 20 years down the road, and we came across a time machine... and it came back to this very day, what do you think our future selves would tell our current selves to change, or fix, or do? Surely there is something that we would recognize that could improve, or some perspective that we could benefit from. Maybe a failing relationship that needs mended, or a book that needs to be read?  Would you focus more on strengthening your marriage? Would you spend some extra time with a loved one that may pass soon and you just didn't know their time was short. Would you take more risks in your business ventures? Or would you prioritize self-care and work-life balance? Would you take that one investment that you dismissed and thought it was too risky? Or would you give up and move on from a project that you've exhausted too much into?

It's a thought-provoking question, and one that can help you gain some valuable insights into what really matters in your business and in your personal life.

Here are some tips to help you focus on the things that truly matter, both in the present and in the future:

  1. Prioritize personal relationships. Building strong, healthy relationships with your loved ones is essential to a fulfilling life. Make time for the people you care about, and don't let work consume all of your time and energy.

  2. Take calculated risks. As a successful business owner, you likely know that taking risks is essential for growth and innovation. Don't be afraid to try new things and take calculated risks, even if it means stepping outside of your comfort zone.

  3. Focus on self-care. You can't be a successful business owner if you're burned out and exhausted. Take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally, and make time for the things that bring you joy and relaxation.

  4. Stay true to your values. As you grow and evolve in your business, it's important to stay true to your core values and beliefs. Don't compromise your integrity or sacrifice your principles for the sake of success.

By focusing on these key areas, you can build a successful business and a fulfilling life - one that you'll be proud to look back on, whether you're traveling back in time or moving forward into the future.
